SUMMARY:Aburo Screening on the International Day of the Boy Child
DESCRIPTION:On International Day of the Boy Child 2024\, Debra’s Palace\, in collaboration with Filmone Studios\, hosted a special screening of the powerful film “Aburo” for over 40 boys from public secondary schools in Lagos. This moving cinematic portrayal resonates deeply with the struggles and experiences of the average Nigerian boy child\, striking a chord with all in attendance. \n“Aburo” masterfully depicts the resilience\, determination\, and pursuit of dreams that define the journeys of so many young men in our society. Through its compelling narrative and authentic character depictions\, the film shines a light on the challenges faced by boys navigating the complexities of life in Nigeria. This screening provided a transformative opportunity for the invited students to engage directly with the film’s stars\, Efa Iwara and Prince Buchi\, as well as the director and producers\, fostering empathy\, understanding\, and empowerment. \nThe International Day of the Boy Child is a crucial moment to celebrate the triumphs and address the unique challenges confronting boys worldwide. SUMMARY:Children's Day with Street Kids
DESCRIPTION:On May 24\, 2024\, the team at Debra’s Palace Initiative\, in collaboration with the Pistis Foundation\, organized a heartwarming Children’s Day party for vulnerable children in the Jakande Community of Lekki. This event was particularly poignant\, as many families in the area had been displaced by government actions\, leaving some children without homes and roaming the streets on a day meant to celebrate childhood. \nRecognizing the need to bring joy and support to these underprivileged children\, the organizers worked tirelessly to create a memorable celebration. During the party\, we discovered that some of the attendees were out of school\, prompting the Pistis Foundation to take immediate action. The foundation enrolled several of the children in school\, providing them with the opportunity to continue their education and build a brighter future. \nAdditionally\, the Pistis Foundation established a football club\, welcoming both boys and girls to participate. This initiative not only fostered athletic development but also cultivated a sense of community and belonging among the children\, many of whom had faced the hardships of displacement and instability. \nThe Children’s Day party was a testament to the power of compassion and the transformative impact that can be achieved when organizations come together to support the most vulnerable members of society. By providing education\, recreational activities\, and a haven for these children\, the event left an indelible mark\, reminding us all of the importance of standing up for the rights and well-being of every child\, regardless of their circumstances.
